Manpower Development for Egyptian STI (Scientific and Technical Information) Services

Results are presented of a study of the manpower needed to operate the planned national system of scientific and technical information (STI) services in Egypt for a five-year period. It is estimated that a staff equivalent to 1,045 full-time professionals and paraprofessionals will be required. To meet this projected demand, it is recommended that an intensive, centrally managed program be offered to train information service specialists, information systems specialists, applications programmers, information service assistants, computer supervisors, and computer terminal operators. It is proposed that a one-day management seminar be offered for top-level decision makers and that a three-day seminar on information support for project management be offered for technical directors. The general contents of each short course and seminar are outlined and suggestions concerning long-term manpower development through regular programs of education and training are offered.
