On August 13, 1980, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) received a request to evaluate an outbreak of skin problems among employees at a Cincinnati store of the Kroger Company. Evaluation included two surveys in 1980 involving four Cincinnati Kroger stores. NIOSH has found evidence of a high prevalence of phototoxic contact dermatitis among sackers at several Kroger stores in Cincinnati. A search for the phototoxin responsible has been unsuccessful.
