Trait-Situation Interactions: Test of Murray's Theory

The press-need and interactionist hypotheses of Henry A. Murray (1938) were tested to (1) furnish additional support for the validation of Murray's theory of personality through the multitrait-multimethod paradigm; (2) support the interactionist perspective by identifying different patterns of relationships among traits (Murray's needs) for different types of situations (Murray's press); and (3) demonstrate the utility of multipoint bipolar rating scales and statements scaled by Thurstone methods for the assessment of personality traits.
