摘要

The two volume report studied on job accommodations provided to handicapped employees by federal contractors. It surveyed 2,000 federal contractors of which 367 responded. Eighty-five were interviewed by telephone to explore in depth circumstances surrounding provision of accommodations. Questionnaires were distributed to disabled workers to learn their perceptions about accommodations. Ten on-site visits (described in volume 2) were made to exemplary firms. Accommodations of handicapped workers were found not be a special concern to most company officials. Job accommodations are a natural consequence of the decision to hire or retain handicapped workers. The study estimated that about 3.5 percent of the work force were handicapped. Of this number about one-quarter required accommodations.
