Identifying Individual Bald Eagles with Voiceprints: A Feasibility Study

The ability to identify bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) by voice would eliminate the need to capture, handle, and mark them in order to study certain aspects of their life history. Calls of breeding adults were recorded at 16 eyries in northern California in 1979 and 1980, and sonagrams (voiceprints) were prepared of all recordings. Samples of 'chatter' calls were compared for individual differences within and between years.
