Scientific and Technical Informational Resources Available to the Tennessee General Assembly: Tennessee Legislative State Science, Engineering and Technology Program

The role of the State of Tennessee in the State Science, Engineering, and Technology Program (SSET) is addressed. The report presents background information on the establishment of SSET; a historical perspective on the Tennessee legislature's role in public policy formation; a description of the growth of legislative staff services and information resources; information resources other than legislative staff; consequences of and responses to legislative reliance upon external information resources; and a discussion for improving Tennessee's legislative science and technology (S&T) capacity. Included in the report are a chronology of the creation of the Legislative Council; the structure of the Tennessee General Assembly; the study committee subject index from 1971 through 1981; a list of Tennessee State Legislators' occupations, reflecting the wide range of S&T expertise available; a directory of state agencies in Tennessee; a list of lobbyists and their areas of expertise, and a partial list of publications of the Council of State Governments.
