Mitigating Drought through Weather Modification: Selected Institutional and Meteorological Issues in Texas. Volume 4: An Objective Study of the Upper-Air Conditions Relating to Precipitation Over the Southeastern Section of the Edwards Plateau in Texas

The purpose of this study is to identify and quantify the upper air meteorological variables which are associated with rainfall over the southeastern portion of the Edwards Plateau in Texas. Using the six summer months of eight years (1973-80) of data from these rawinsonde stations, eighteen parameters were computed for each observation period. These values were compared with the daily rainfall as reported by approximately eighty rainfall stations within the triangle. Regression equations were formulated relating the eighteen parameters to the average areal rainfall amount. A method is presented to forecast the days (about 50% of the days) when no seedable rain will occur.
