Multiple Objective Planning of Land/Water Interface in Medium Size Cities: Application to West Lafayette, Indiana

Research was focused on the conflicting goals of land use expansion and the control of urban runoff effluent quality. A probability distribution approach was used to obtain the distribution of the overflows and of pollutant concentration levels in the receiving stream. The nearly-developed probability distributions provide a simple but powerful methodology for solving urban stormwater problems in estimating the size of the required detention storage, the reliability of the treatment system, and the size of the treatment plant for a given reliability level.
