Food Consumption: Households in the South, Spring 1977. Nationwide Food Consumption Survey 1977-78

The money value of food used by housekeeping households in the South averaged $56 in a week during the spring of 1977. Of this amount, four-fifths ($44) was the value of food used at home and one-fifth ($12) was the expense for meals and snacks eaten away from home. Most of the food used at home was bought, except for $4 worth received without direct expense which was mainly home-produced. Meals eaten away from home accounted for $9 and snacks for $3.
