Recognizing and Reducing Ionospheric Distortion of Skywave Radar Sea-Echo Spectra - Recommended Tests with Synthetically Distorted Spectra

Specific plans are presented for synthetically distorting measured sea-echo spectra with measured ionospheric distortion and for using the resulting spectra with known ionospheric distortion to test methods for recognizing and reducing ionospheric distortion in sea-echo spectra. This procedure appears to be the most reliable way to evaluate strategies to deal with ionospheric distortion in HF skywave sea-state radar Doppler spectra.
