Severe Measles and Measles Blindness

摘要

While having disappeared in the West well before the advent of antibiotics and vaccinations, severe measles and subsequent childhood blindness continue to be reported from Africa to this day. The objective of this paper is to summarize the available evidence regarding the origin of severe measles and the etiology of measles blindness in Africa by reviewing the available literature and exploring several hypotheses.
