Economics Policy Workshop (5th). Summary and Proceedings: Agricultural Policy in Egypt

The workshop, held in September 1982, highlighted ADS research contributions to Egyptian food and agricultural policy formulation in four areas: (1) at the macro-, national level, (2) in microeconomic decisions, (3) from the food distribution and consumption side, and (4) in the long-term perspective. (The high quality of the papers illustrates how the ADS project has matured in understanding of the issues.) The first session emphasized the need for integrated policy making that recognizes the interconnections between macro- and micro-policy effects, among commodities, with other nations, and between the various short- and long-term implications. This workshop and continuing ADS research provide the conceptual and analytical basis for support of improved policy decision making for agricultural sector development.
