Arctic Deployment of USCGC Polar Star - Winter 1982. Volume 5. Instrumentation System and Computer Software Documentation

During the 1982 test program, instrumentation installed aboard POLAR STAR was used to measure and record propulsion parameters, ship speed, and ship motions. The instrumentation system consisted of 21 transducers, signal conditioning equipment, a Hewlett-Packard 9845T digital data acquisition system, an analog magnetic tape recorder, an oscillograph recorder, and a complete video recording system. Eleven different computer programs were developed to provide real-time data acquisition and subsequent analysis of data. This report volume provides equipment descriptions and installation details for the entire system as well as documentation of the computer programs. General program descriptions are contained in the text, but other volumes of this set of reports should be consulted for detailed descriptions of methods of analysis. Calibration procedures are described and the performance of the system during the tests is discussed.
