Occupancy Controlled Lighting: Energy Savings Demonstration and Analysis

This report describes the testing and evaluation of occupancy-controlled lighting switches in two typical office buildings in New York City. The report examines the energy savings potential available through the use of such devices, as well as their cost-effectiveness, performance and acceptability in actual installations. Lighting is a major component of energy use in office buildings in New York State, representing as much as 30 to 40 percent of a building's total energy consumption. The development, demonstration, and marketing of lighting control devices such as those described in this report offer potential for significant energy savings in the commercial sector.
