This report is a comprehensive review of the data collected for the exploitation of the James Bay territory in Canada. The seven year study carefully collected baseline data for projections of the environmental effects of various types of exploitation. The report is divided into the following sectors: Summary of Programs; Ecological Inventories; Studies of the Aquatic Environment and its Fauna; Atmospheric Environment Studies; Studies of Waterfowl and Their Habitat; Studies of the Terrestrial Environment and its Fauna; Studies of the Marine Environment and its Fauna; Environmental Monitoring and Data Management; Man's Activities and Land-Use Planning. The result of this study was the integration of environmental data into the decision-making process for planning of infrastructures, assessment of development variants and the application of mitigation measures. The methodology followed here can be used as a paradigm for similar efforts in other countries.
