Ecology of Petroleum Platforms in the Northwestern Gulf of Mexico: A Community Profile

This publication describes the history of the installation and distribution of petroleum platforms in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico and includes estimates of the total amount of hard substrate they provide. The biological assemblages associated with these structures are described in terms of the species or species groups represented, their patterns of horizontal and vertical zonation, some of the structural and functional aspects of the communities they comprise, and the contribution of these communities to regional productivity. Color plates are included for species identification.
