Analysis of Inorganic Anions in Potomac Water, Sediment and Floc by Ion Chromatography

Recent reports by the authors have shown non-suppressed ion chromatography, which uses conventional high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) instrumentation, to be a low cost analytical technique for the analysis of inorganic anions. This technique has been successfully applied to the analysis of municipal water samples from Howard, Baltimore and Montgomery Counties in Maryland, as well as the District of Columbia. Samples of Potomac River water taken at the Chesapeake Bay/Potomac River interface are usually very difficult to analyze, since there is a small amount (10-15 PPM) of Chloride ion. Potomac River samples were also successfully analyzed.
