摘要

This report from the National Center for Health Statistics presents data from Wave II of the National Survey of Personal Health Practices and Consequences (NSPHPC). Basic data, derived from telephone interviews, are presented for the civilian noninstitutionalized U.S. population ages 20-64 years. Statistics are shown for personal health practices, self-perceived health status, health care utilization, compliance with medical advice, social support, psychological well-being, occupation-related health factors, life events, and selected sociodemographic characteristics. The two-wave panel survey of personal health practices and consequences was designed to partially meet the needs of the prevention initiative begun in 1977 by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The purpose of the survey was to determine the distribution of a wide range of health practices in the U.S. population, to investigate their stability over time, and to examine their relationship to health status and other personal characteristics. This report is intended as a reference document for persons interested in the study of preventive health behavior, its correlates, and its consequences.
