摘要

This report describes an experiment, conducted at CAORF, to determine if a conning officer's handling of a vessel is more efficient or effective when he is provided with both shallow and deep water ship maneuvering characteristics than when receiving deep water information alone. Test subjects conned three ships, a 30,000 DWT tanker, an 80,000 DWT tanker, and a 125,000 cubic meter LNG tanker, through shallow water, restricted area of the fictitious ABC Harbor channel. They familiarized themselves with the harbor channel by making three successive transits on one of the three ships. They then made one transit on each of the two remaining ships, with shallow water maneuvering information provided on all transits.
