Electrochemical Determination of Thermodynamic Properties of Manganomanganic Oxide and Manganese Sesquioxide

The Bureau of Mines investigated thermodynamic properties of Mn3O4 (manganomanganic oxide) and Mn2O3 (manganese sesquioxide). The standard Gibbs energies of formation (delta G(f)) of Mn3O4 and Mn2O3 from their lower oxides were determined with high-temperature galvanic cells using stabilized ZrO2 (zirconia) as the electrolyte.
