Safety of Beam Trawlers with a 'Fastening' Net

The main theme of the first part of this paper is to outline the mathematical evaluation of the motions of a beam trawler and the tensile force in the warp, upon the occasion one of the beamtrawls becomes suddenly fastened in an abrupt manner on an obstruction on the seabed e.g. a wreck during the operation of trawling. In the second part of this paper a review will be given of the tests with a model of a beam trawler, which have been carried out at the Ship Hydromechanics Laboratory of the Delft University of Technology, Netherlands.
