Legislative and Administrative Changes to Improve Verification of Welfare Recipients' Income and Assets Could Save Hundreds of Millions

This report discusses legislative and administrative changes needed to improve agencies' ability to verify income and asset information reported by applicants and recipients of welfare programs. Specifically, this report discusses the differences in verification requirements among programs, the inadequacies of current verification processes, and Federal laws and regulations which restrict the use of information that could significantly improve the verification process.
