The research demonstrated that introduction of dielectric material into the working gap of a varying capacitance, rotating machine, in combination with a novel arrangement of machine elements, increased the power of the machine by an order of magnitude. Using polymeric compounds having dielectric constants in the range from 2.3 to 12, it was shown that the electrical output of the machine increased by a factor up to nearly 10, in consequence of the proposed innovations. It was also shown that the gain was not attained simply by introduction of the dielectric material, but that this had to be accomplished in accordance with the proposed design concepts. Voltage and current output of the machine, their dependence on rotor-stator gap, and on dielectric constant, and the output waveform were determined experimentally and found to be in good agreement with the results of the machine analysis.
