This document contains the proceedings of the 8th Kentucky Coal By-Products Symposium. The topic was 'Enhanced Energy and Coal Recovery from Preparation Facilities and Disposal Sites.' The enhanced recovery of energy from coal preparation facilities and disposal sites has become the focus of renewed interest by both government and private industry. Many new technologies are emerging which center upon the recovery of saleable coal, enhanced coal recovery systems within present preparation facilities, and energy recovery via the emerging fluid bed combustion systems. It was the expressed purpose of this symposium to present the state-of-the-art in enhanced energy recovery systems for coal preparation facilities and exchange technical information to encourage the commercial development of these technologies. The symposium consisted of three sessions focusing on Atmospheric Fluid Bed Combustion of Coal Refuse, Saleable Coal Recovery from Coal Refuse, and Advances in Conventional Coal Recovery. A total of 16 papers covering various aspects of these topics were presented.
