Feasibility of Expanding an Egg-Grading Plant to Achieve Economies of Scale

A feasibility analysis of expanding a 70 case-per-hour egg-grading plant operating two shifts a day, to a 135-case-per-hour plant, is presented in a step-by-step example that could be used to conduct a feasibility study of similar facilities. Actual fixed and variable costs are given for an existing 70-case-per-hour plant and estimated for the expanding plant. The report contains layouts and illustrations of the present plant and layouts of the expanded plant, along with the building changes necessary to expand the volume. Costs for the facility changes and the new equipment are included.
