摘要

This study is essentially a compilation and synthesis of existing information. As such, it includes literature reviews of the characteristics of the geologic/physical, biologic, and cultural/economic systems of the Mid-Atlantic (Part III), and pipeline operations and impacts in other areas (Part IV). An impact assessment, essentially a vulnerability analysis which relates the past experience with pipelines to the existing features of the Mid-Atlantic, comprises Part V. In this vulnerability analysis, impact values are assigned to the specific features, in an attempt to identify the location and potential impacts which may occur from pipeline development. Recommended measures for minimizing the impacts are included. A comprehensive list of references, including papers, reports, and related information not cited in the text of the report is presented to assist future users in similar investigations.
