Fisheries Management in the Northern Nile Delta Lakes of Egypt: The Case of Hosha

The paper is one of several describing northern Egyptian lakes fisheries. Evidence suggests that hosha, although illegal, are very widespread in these lakes. ('Hosha' encompasses several fishing techniques including diking off and draining portions of a lake to capture the fish and netting fish while pumping water out of a section of the lake.) The dangers that continued rapid expansion of unregulated hosha pose for the future viability of open water fisheries are considerable.
