Age Effects in Animal Models of Abnormal Behavior

Target behaviors in animals that appear analogous to symptoms central to multiple disease processes were investigated. Startle augmentation, hyperactivity and hyperactive components of stereotypy as a function of age was investigated as follows: (1) contribution of norepinephrine activity to d-amphetamine induced behavior; (2) contribution of 5-HT mechanisms; (3) neuro-transmitter terminals and cell bodies contribution to dopamine, 5-HT and/or norepinephrine influences on d-amphetamine induced behaviors; and (4) the effects of duration of treatment with psychomotor stimulants.
