Adolescence, Maturation and Psychosocial Ritual

The relationship between cultural codes of honor and shame and two ritual practices associated with these codes, called virginity rituals, was studied. A causal model, based on social exchange theory was tested on a cross-cultural sample of 151 world societies within a single society (Egypt). A case study of virginity rituals and associated cultural codes among a sample of contemporary Egyptians was also conducted.
