The MICRODARE/LABNET System, which is a minicomputer language for laboratory automation and control, is discussed. MICRODARE executes directly on a typed RUN command and runs at approximately one-half assembly language speed. In addition, MICRODARE/LABNET includes communications primitives to permit one minicomputer to program and control multiple concurrent real-time tasks in several other processors connected by serial links. MICRODARE programs are shown for a small computer which reads an analog voltage 100 times per second, performs a low-pass filtering operation with the transfer function, and sets the output into a digital-to-analog converter. A variety of signal-processing and random-process-measurement applications are illustrated, including periodic signal enhancement by recursive averaging, fast Fourier transform, and peak reading. Ways to schedule concurrent tasks are examined. Technical summaries of various features of the MICRODARE/LABNET System appear in the appendix.
