摘要

The use of a taxi DAR service as an alternative to regular fix-route buses represents one approach to providing Sunday transit service. This report covers the Phoenix Sunday DAR system during 26 months of operation, from September 1980 through October 1982. The City contracts with a local cab operator to provide the DAR service. Twelve or thirteen taxicabs, including one lift-equipped van, are usually needed to meet demand. To obtain service, customers call the DAR office, a local taxi operator, between 8 AM and 5 PM, and are picked up as soon as possible or at an appointed time. A one-zone fare is 1.50 and additional zone cost $.50. Seniors, handicapped persons, and children ride for half fare. The DAR system operates with a productivity rate of 2.1 passenger trips per hour. The total cost per passenger trip is $7.67 and subsidy cost per passenger trip is 6.64. Average ridership for the 26-month period of operation was 233 per Sunday. The report concludes that provision of Sunday public transportation service using DAR taxi service may be more practical in Phoenix than in other areas.
