Herbicides in Runoff from Agricultural Watersheds in a High-Winter-Rainfall Zone

Relatively few studies have been made on the behavior of pesticides in relation to runoff from agricultural watersheds in the high-winter-rainfall zone of the northwestern United States. This study was designed to quantify runoff losses of two herbicides, diclofop-methyl (methyl 2-(4-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)phenoxy)propanoate) and trifluralin (alpha,alpha,alpha-trifluoro-2,6-dinitro-N,N-dipropyl-p-toluidine), from small agricultural watersheds in the Willamette Valley, Oregon and identify factors and processes influencing herbicide transport in this region. Various diclofop-methyl soil interactions were also studied under conditions typically following a winter application of diclofop-methyl in western Oregon.
