Opportunities for Control of Dracunculiasis: Report of a Workshop Held at Washington, DC. on June 16-19, 1982

Dracunculiasis, or guinea worm disease, is a parasitic disease that has been the cause of human suffering and an impediment to economic development in parts of Africa, India, and the Middle East. Until recently the disease has not been the subject of sustained research or control efforts, because it does not kill but rather temporarily disables people in remote, rural areas. This is the report of the first international meeting on dracunculiasis. It contains the findings and recommendations of a distinguished group of scientists who were brought together to discuss dracunculiasis as an international health problem.
