Board of Veterans Appeals 50th Anniversary, 1933-1983

The Board of Veterans Appeals is a statutory board operating under the provisions of 38 U.S.C. 4001-4009. Its goal is to equitably decide appeals under all laws administered by the Veterans Administration, with sympathetic understanding, in order to grant all benefits to which veterans and their dependents are entitled. It conducts its proceedings under Rules of Practice published at 38 CFR 19.101-19.200, and employs a staff of attorneys, physicians, and support personnel. This 50th anniversary publication presents information on the history of the Board, profiles of its chairmen, the historical background of veterans' benefits and appeals, and recollections of former chairmen and of legal and judicial personnel affiliated with the Board over the years. The present staff, facilities, and activities of the Board are also described.
