Squid Fishery Development Project for Southeast Alaska

The objectives of the Squid Fishery Development Project in Southeast Alaska were to identify and locate spawning concentrations of squid, collect biological information, attempt a preliminary estimate of resource abundance and estimate the potential for a commercial squid fishery. The project data were generated primarily during a two week investigative cruise during the spring of 1982, and also included observations made during the spring and summer of 1982. The project findings have identified what may be a significant Loligo opalescens population, and the report discusses its feasibility for commercial harvesting.
