Conceptual and Analytical Models of Productivity Planning and Improvement in Manufacturing Companies

Definitions of productivity, partial productivity, total productivity, total-factor productivity, and productivity management are supplied. Productivity improvement techniques are divided into five basic types: (1) technology-based; (2) employee-based; (3) product-based; (4) process-based; and (5) material-based. A six-step procedure is proposed for productivity improvement: (1) data collection; (2) computation of productivity improvement coefficients and technique usage; (5) final selection of the productivity improvement technique; and (6) implementation of the selected technique. An example is provided to illustrate a formal approach to productivity improvement.
