Examining how Americans use health care services and determining national patterns of health expenditures and insurance coverage are the goals of a landmark study by the National Center for Health Services Research (NCHSR). This study will provide important information and analyses on inpatient hospital services: use, expenditures, and sources of payment. This data preview from the National Health Care Expenditures Study presents population estimates of use and expenses for these services in 1977. Differences among selected population groups are shown by the percent of the population with or without a hospital admission and by length of stay.
