摘要

The above average variability during fall and winter 1981-82 was mainly in the middle latitudes and within the western half of the Northern Hemisphere. The larger fluctuations appear to have occurred on time scales in the range of one week to two months. Elsewhere in the hemisphere, however, there were three continuing large-scale anomalies that also affected the climate, at least through fall 1981. These continuing features were: Persistent and recurrent blocking at high latitudes; (very prominent in October and also during much of the winter). The blocking was related to the middle-latitude variability. Over much of Asia, a general continuance of the mean circulation pattern; A general anticyclonic anomaly and the accompanying persistence of long-standing drought over the Iberian Peninsula and much of Northwest Africa.
