Energy saving by installation of movable louvers in front of walls and windows was investigated relative to the heating and cooling of buildings. Computer simulation of diurnal and annual variation of direct and diffuse insolation, long wave atmospheric radiation, air temperature and cloudiness was conducted. Annual heating and cooling loads per square meter window surface (double glazing; southern orientation) and per square meter wall surface (with and without insulation; south, east, and west orientation) were numerically evaluated, using an implicit differential method with a one hour time step.
