Welding Technology for Cylindrical Oil Tanks (Ento kei Sekiyu Tanku no Yosetsu Gijutsu)

The report provides details of several new welding technologies developed or adapted specifically for the welding of large, cylindrical oil tanks. A description is given of the welding process and the performance of the welded parts using the 'VEGA-VB Method' (VEGA = Vibratory Electrogas Arc Welding). This is a high performance vertical-position welding method for side plates. The 'Torch Variable-type Tandem MISA Welder' (A microwire submerged arc welder) provides a highly efficient welding method for the butt welding of bottom plates and for the fillet welds of side plates. Finally, a new fusion-type flux for three o'clock-position submerged arc welding is described.
