The objective of this study is to determine if acid deposition and acid stream drainage poses a significant threat to the Deep Creek Lake. The Lake is thought to be potentially sensitive to acid because its beadrock is primarily acid sandstone and shale and because the buffering capacity of the lake water is low. Studies of lake water chemistry indicate a significant temporary pH depression during spring runoff; however no long-term trend in lake water pH was observed.
