Structural Design Sensitivity Analysis with General Boundary Conditions

This report presents methods of design sensitivity analysis of structural and mechanical systems when general boundary conditions are used in the analysis phase. Design sensitivity analysis is needed when optimum design or trend information for a system is required. There are two parts to this report. Part I presents the static response problem and Part II considers the eigenvalue and transient response problems. For both static and dynamic problems, several forms of the structural design sensitivity equations are presented so that they are compatible with any existing finite element analysis computer code. Methods developed are evaluated with the help of numerical examples.
