Evaluation of Five Types of Binders to Improve the Artificial Diet of Young American Eels 'Anguilla rostrata' Le Seuer

摘要

The 'traditional' diet of young American eels (Anguilla rostrata) consists of fish meal, alpha cornstarch and a vitamin premix. This formulation has been used at the University of North Carolina Sea Grant Aquaculture Demonstration Project in Aurora, North Carolina, and in commercial eel farming operations in Japan and Taiwan. The main problems with this mixture are decreased profit margins due to wasted food and a general lowering of water quality.
