Assessment of Changes in Industrial Composition and Location in the United States and Their Implications for Gas Usage

A study of issues on an aggregate basis, that could potentially impact the future use, availability and overall demand for gas, tends to mask complexities that only become apparent when industries are studied individually. This paper examines the determinants of gas demand in the U.S. industrial sector, attempts to explain why a disaggegated approach to the analysis of this sector is appropriate, and presents evidence showing structural changes within the sector.
