ADAUA (Association pour le Developpement d'une Architecture et d'un Urbanisme Africains) Earthen Construction Techniques

In Africa, Association pour le Developpement d'une Architecture et d'un Urbanisme Africains (ADAUA) stands out as an implementor and innovator of earthen construction technologies. The purpose of the paper is to present a brief appraisal of the ADAUA Earthen Construction Techniques in Ouagadougou, Upper Volta (Burkina Faso). There is a short description of ADAUA, followed by information on the stabilized adobe bricks, overview of the structural system, creation of cooperatives, and other interesting features of ADAUA's operations. In the construction project presented in the paper, soil cement stabilization principles and a Belgian machine production technology are used to improve earthen construction in Upper Volta (Burkina Faso).
