Present and Potential Impacts of Toxic Substances on Municipal Ground Water Resources in North Carolina

The locations of approximately 2,000 toxic substances and hazardous waste problem sites in North Carolina are presented graphically in relation to the locations of the 260 towns and municipalities dependent upon ground water. It is estimated that approximately 480,000 North Carolina residents utilize 64,000,000 gallons of ground water daily through municipal wells. The ground water of some of these municipalities is especially vulnerable to contamination from toxic substances that may emanate from the sites identified.
