Impact of Structure 21 on Pony Creek Archaeology Mills County, Iowa

Investigations in the Glenwood Locality of the Missouri Bluffs focused on three habitational areas and isolated habitational features. Ceramic styles were sufficient to assign occupation to the late prehistoric Central Plains Tradition. A wide range of ceramic, lithic, bone and shell artifacts recovered in conjunction with floral and faunal specimens indicate intense exploitation of local resources and limited gardening. Acceptable radiocarbon and archeomagnetic dates indicate occupation in the late 13th or early 14th century A.D.
