Microcomputers and Programmable Calculators for Agricultural Research in Developing Countries

The potential contribution of hand-held programmable calculators and microcomputers to agricultural research in developing countries is explored in this report, based on an international conference held in 5/82 at Michigan State University (MSU) on specific country and/or institutional issues, and on work performed by faculty and graduate students of MSU's Department of Agricultural Economics on cost-effective data collection, management, and analysis techniques. Major topics discussed include: alternative approaches to data processing; hardware and software (including strategies for software development and exchange); and institutionalization (including technical recommendations for effective field use of microcomputers in developing countries).
