Hydraulic Proportioning of Two-Way Covered Baffle Inlet Riser

This technical release (TR) presents criteria for the design and the structural layout proportioning for the two-way baffle inlet on a covered riser. The baffle inlet was developed to overcome the limitation of the standard covered riser that does not permit encroachment of the ground surface, embankment or sediment pool, into the area of the trashrack below the weir crest. Numerous variations of the concept have been tested at the SEA-AR Hydraulic Laboratory at Stillwater, Oklahoma. Model and prototype test and field observations of actual installations of baffle inlets have demonstrated that they function well.
