Archaeological Investigations at the 18th Century Overhill Cherokee Town of Mialoquo (40MR3)

The 1976 and 1977 excavations at the historic Overhill Cherokee town of Mialoquo (40MR3) are summarized. Analysis suggests minor occupations by Archaic, Woodland, and Mississippian groups preceded the principal occupation by the Overhill Cherokee. Ethnohistoric data along with temporally diagnostic Euro-American artifacts suggest that the site was occupied from ca. 1760 to at least 1776.
